Your favourite aunt
once every generation, art rock and punk combine into one extraordinary aunt. Agatha is that aunt.
Aunt Agatha rose to power in the North Yorkshire town of Malton, where two brothers - Thomas (vocals) and Philip (guitarist) - began writing music together as kids. After perfecting their energetic and slightly demented live performance style ('f**king awesome', says one audience insider) by gigging in the York area, the art & punk rock duo release their first single, Roboman, on July 19.
Thomas provides the lyrics for Aunt Agatha's music, and uses his powerful bass voice with a flair for the theatrical. Philip writes the music, weaving strange, looping threads of bluesy lead guitar and energetic riffs to create an effect that has been likened to carnival music.
Live, they perform as a duo, and the acoustic guitar belies an evening of unabashed and unpredictable rocking 'n' rolling fun.
Aunt Agatha is currently working on a debut album, with live dates planned in support. In the meantime, their debut single - 'Roboman' - is available to listen on July 19!
